There’s something about matcha lovers — they can spot a new café from a mile away. And for The Hungry Ho’s Khelly, that’s exactly what happened when he found himself at The Whisk Room, a sweet little spot tucked in Brgy. 6, Rizal Street, Malaybalay City.

“As a matcha lover, I can’t help but get excited whenever there’s a new café or coffee shop that serves matcha,”
says Khelly.

With its modern, chic, and minimalist design, The Whisk Room is easy to love at first glance. It’s one of those cafés that feels calm yet full of quiet conversations — where every cup seems made for unhurried moments.

“Many of my friends who’ve been here said they serve really good matcha, so without hesitation, I decided to check it out,” he continues. “Unfortunately, when I arrived, their matcha was sold out. Instead, I opted to try something new — a drink called Genmaicha.”

Genmaicha, for those unfamiliar, is a Japanese green tea blended with roasted brown rice. It’s earthy, nutty, and comforting — a perfect fit for a rainy afternoon or a slow weekend pause.

“Genmaicha has roasted rice pops in it, and as someone who loves the comforting aroma and flavor of toasted rice, I was instantly intrigued. True enough, it tasted amazing. The rice pops beautifully balanced the sweetness in every sip,”
Khelly shared. “If I were to rate this drink, it’s an easy 10 out of 10 — this might just be my new favorite.”

Alongside their drinks, The Whisk Room also offers a selection of pastries — cinnamon rolls topped with flavors like Cookies and Cream, Biscoff, and Matcha.

“The flavors were good, but the dough could use a little improvement,” he admits. “Probably not my favorite for now, so I’d give it a 6 out of 10.”

Still, the cozy atmosphere made the experience worthwhile — and then came a twist of good fortune.

“While I was enjoying my cozy stay in the café, I heard some good news — their matcha stocks had just arrived! Luckily, I was able to try it.”

And finally, the sip she had been waiting for.

“It tasted quite different from the usual, probably because they use a higher grade of matcha powder same as to what I see and taste in Japan. It was pleasantly unique and refreshing.”

It’s the kind of detail that shows what The Whisk Room is quietly doing right — thoughtful choices, premium ingredients, and a sense of calm that lingers longer than the drink.

“Would I be coming back? Of course! A matcha lover would always go for matcha — and this pocket café surprisingly has a good foot traffic. Next time, I’m definitely upgrading to a bigger cup.”

Sometimes, the best finds aren’t about what we plan to order — but what surprises us instead. For Khelly, The Whisk Room was that kind of find: honest, cozy, and full of quiet charm.
